Saw VI

They get it right this time.
If you're like me, then you were probably somewhat disappointed with the entertaining but somewhat shallow "Saw V".I did like it and it was entertaining, but the acting and performances ranked a new low for the "Saw" franchise. After "Saw V", I had some really low expectations for the sixth installment. That's why I chose not to see it in theaters.Truth is that me and my friend were actually going to see it by paying for "Where the wild Things Are" and sneak into "Saw VI", but we decided to see "Paranormal Activity" when we found out that it was actually in our theater. We ended up seeing "Saw VI" when my friend rented the movie and told me it was awesome. My expectations grew, and I was pleasantly surprised. This is what part 5 should've been.It has some inventive traps and death scenes, interesting people, and surprisingly good acting for torture porn.
The movie takes place after "Saw V" where (Spoiler alert) Agent Strahm is killed and Detective Hoffman rises as the new Jigsaw killer.John Kramer's (Jigsaw) wife is shown with a box that her husband left for her in his will.In this box there are 6 envelopes, showing the victims of Jigsaw's latest "game".The main victim is William Easton, a man who denied a coverage for John kramer when he thought he found a cure for his cancer. Now he's put through 4 tests that he must complete in 60 minutes if he ever wants to see his family ever again.
It may sound just like some of the previous installments where someone is captured and is forced to pass a bunch of grisly tests in order to survive, but "Saw VI" does it right. The decent acting and story all manage to make for an entertaining gore fest.If there's anything besides gore and traps to expect in this movie, it's flashbacks. While not as heavy on flashbacks as the annoying way "Saw V" kept visiting memory lane, there are a couple of flashbacks that , to me, should've either been removed or put into the movie at a different time than the one they were in.That's probably the worst thing about the movie, but let's just thank director Kevin Greutert for not thinking memories were as important as director David Hackl did for "Saw V".This is what fans were craving for. This is the movie for pretty much everyone who were disappointed with the previous installment. It has all the gore and inventive traps any fan could ask for.Hey, who wants to see someone getting dissolved with acid while he's still alive? I do!
Grade: B+
