The monster movie of the decade?

Matt Reeves' "Cloverfield" is a terrific and fun monster movie throughout. It's exhilerating special effects and captivating idea it revolves around makes it one of those rare monster movies that really work. What makes the movie unique from other monster movies is the style in which the whole movie is shot, amateur style. If you've seen "Blair Witch Project" or "Paranormal Activity", then you know about the style I'm talking about. If you don't mind this style, then you'll probably find yourself enjoying the heck out of this movie.Everyone else should take a pass. The first fifteen to twenty minutes of the movie takes place at a 'Going Away' party where one of the central characters, Robert Hawkins, is leaving New York for Japan.Things go from good to total s*itstorm when New York is suddenly attacked by a monster that would make Godzilla crap himself. With only a camera and themselves, the remaining survivors must endure the chaos and destruction New York is going through.

"Cloverfield" is a very short movie, clocking in at 73 minutes without the end credits. With that aside, I was hugely entertained throughout.I know a couple of people who disliked this movie, mainly for the way the movie was shot and for the fact that the monster wasn't shown that often.Just watch the movie! The movie's obviously not meant to have the monster involved every second of the movie.Talk about bad criticism.I thought "Cloverfield" was a lot of fun.It was pretty well acted, the special effects were outstanding for an ameatur shot movie, and the pacing is kept at a right speed without being too fast or slow.Well, the movie's definetly too short but I was entertained by every minute of it.

Grade: A-
