Kill Bill Vol. 2

Less style, more substance.

I love "Kill Bill Vol. 1" for it's decision to become a stylish revenge movie instead of a serious one-tone revenge movie.Who could forget the 15 massacre scene that set new standards in terms of long and violent action scenes? Let's also not forget that it's one of the most stylish action movies ever made, given how much effort and potential went into the quiet scenes as much as the violent scenes. It's really one of Quentin Tarantino's most unique and violent films, and I enjoyed it on every level! Is the sequel, "Kill Bill Vol. 2" , as good or even better like some people have been saying? No way! While i enjoyed the film on a certain basis, there are things about this film that were great in Vol. 1 but were made less great in Vol. 2.For example, the amount of style and cool-ness that was in the first is completetly gone here. That immediatly leads to another issuse, the film takes itself too seriously, even for a Quentin Tarantino movie.Whatever happened to the witty and violent fun that the first one was able to capture? Hell, the movie isn't even as action-packed or as violent as Vol. 1, so the action scenes that DO happen aren't as fun because they take themselves seriously.

There's really no need into giving plot details about Kill Bill Vol. 2" because it's essentialy the same story as the first. It stars Uma Thurman as "The Bride", who's bent on getting revenge for the people who attempted to kill her and even killed her unborn child. The only thing different about this film is the new targets Thurman is trying to kill and the additional backstory the movie gives, and it's pretty entertaining backstory. The movie is at it's near best when it shows us Thurman's character training with her kung-fu master, and while the punching-through-boards trick is still old, the movie makes it entertaining.

With some nice plot twists and some needed backstory, "Kill Bill Vol. 2" makes for an entertaining 2 hours. If the film was as slick and stylish as the 1st film, it could've been a lot better, but what we have, overall, is a finely-acted and mostly worthy successor to the classic film that reigns as one of the funnest revenge movies I've seen in quite some time.

Grade: B
