"Twilight" just got it's ass kicked.

"Let Me In" is an American remake of a Swedish horror movie called "Let The Right One In", another original movie that I haven't seen. Those looking for a movie better than the original, I dunno, may find themselves thinking the remake was unnecessary, but that's the thing with almost every remake that comes out.Take "Halloween", "Friday The 13th", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and who could forget "A Nightmare On Elm Streets"? Matt Reeves, the director of the hugely entertaing "Cloverfield", actually delivers a remake that doesn't rely on typical blood splatter and nudity to entertain, and that's a rare thing to find in Hollywood remakes of original classics. While not the best vampire movie ever, "Let Me In" is a solid and effective take on the vampire genre and actually gives a pretty decent love story.Forget about "Twilight", THIS is how to mix vampires and romance together the RIGHT way. What keeps the movie going in the right direction is mainly the story, which revolves around a 12-year old boy who finds himself in love with his new neighbor, who's secretly a vampire. She's played by Chloe Grace Moretz, who doesn't exactly give as strong a performance as in "Kick-Ass" as Hit Girl, but she deserves at least a little attention for her strong performance as a blood-thirsty vampire. There is a one thing I didn't like too much about "Let Me In", the emotion. It's not the fact that the movie tried to be emotional in some scenes, it's the fact that watching these parts didn't give me the feeling that I was watching a vampire movie.Sometimes it felt like an ordinary drama, then it moved into a vampire flick, but who said that was a bad thing? Most vampire movies require a little substance to be more than just vampire flick and not just an average gore-fest, and I think Reeve's definetly did a good thing by not relying on gore for entertainment.

Is "Let Me In" as good as Matt Reeve's "Cloverfield" ? Hell to the no! While not as viciously entertaining as "Cloverfield", "Let Me In" is a solid take on the vampire genre. It's a little overlong and the touchy feelings and emotions kind of change the mood from vampire to drama, but the story and performances keep it from being as gay as "Twilight", and that's something to be thankful for.Kristen Stewart, get your pale tail out of dodge, Chloe Grace Moretz is the WAY better actress.

Grade: B+
