You'll never see a better exorcism movie than this.

Oh, how I missed out on one of the biggest blockbuster hits of the 1970's.No, the biggest horror movie of the 1970's.No, one of the biggest horror movies of all time."The Exorcist" is one of those rare horror movies that actually get to you.I wasn't particually terrifyed like I thought I was going to be, but that doesn't change the fact that this is simply the best demonic film I've seen. It's sad how we don't get movies like these any more, the new "horror" movies think that gore is necessary, but it's not.Compared to "The Exorcist", movies like "Saw", "Hostel", and the After Dark horror movies are total crap.Absolute, pointless crap.I enjoy gory splatter movies, but haven't we seen it all before? If you haven't seen "The Exorcist", I suggest you watch it before anything involved with Lionsgate Studios gets into your head.

What makes "The Exorcist" an effective piece of cinema? The performances, simply put.Max von Sydow (Minority Report) and Jason Miller are both excellent as the 2 priests who try to save a possesed girl.As for the actress who gave the best performance, it goes to Linda Blair.Never have I seen a more convincing performance as someone being possesed than her.Forget "The Last Exorcism", THIS is the definition of a possesion.Last but not least, there's Ellen Burstyn, who I must say, gives powerful and convincing acting skills as the mother of the possesed 12-year old.

Now let's talk about how scary the movie is.I watched the movie last night, with the lights out on my 32-inch TV.Watching "Paranormal Activity 2" sure did do the trick, but was I scared by "The Exorcist"? In all honesty, no, not at all. While the fear factor wasn't quite high for me, I still must say that this is one of the most effective horror movies I've seen, mainly for the fact that it will probably leave questions in your head like "Can this stuff actually happen?" and "What are the chances of this happening to me?".The answers can only be found in your beliefs. If you believe in this type of stuff, ike I do, then the answers to your questions can be found all over the Internet.Just look up the story of Anneliese Michel and that will probably leave you with your jaw dropped and your head shooken to it's core.So if you don't belive in demons or demonic possesions, look up her story or simply watch the video I posted to the right of the review of a truly great horror movie.

Grade: A-
