The Matrix Revolutions

The effects are bigger, the script is weaker.

Calling "The Matrix Revolutions" a terrible movie is really an over-statement.It's nowhere near as good or original as the first "Matrix" that was released in 1999, but it's not any worse nor better than the sequel "The Matrix Reloaded", which I thought was a pretty entertaining movie.Since it's a "Matrix" movie, expect the expected. The special effects and action sequences are thrilling and amazing, and Keanu Reeves gives the best performance out of the all the characters in the movie. However, there's a problem with these 2 things. While the effects are dazzling, this 3rd and supposibly last installment has the weakest script, even weaker than that of "The Matrix Reloaded".It's as if the directors just wanted to make an exciting action movie but forgot to have a story to fill in the explosions and futuristic awesomeness.Much also can't be said about Keanu Reeves in this movie. He's not bad in any way or shape, but the film feels as if though his character should be put off after an action sequence or two. When the movie forgets him to add in an amazing 20 to 30 minute scene where the machines start a huge battle with the humans, you can't help but ask why the film had to have this but couldn't include Neo.So many script problems this movie has! I loved the original film because of how the concept and story played out and how it managed to squeeze in some really cool scenes, but "Revolutions" just wants to be an exciting action movie, which it does fairly well as, but that's about it.All in all, I think "The Matrix Revolutions" is a heavily underrated movie that pretty much equals "Reloaded", so the film is just good.I must state with a passion that if your going to buy a movie on DVD and you see all 3 "Matrix" movies on a bin, save your money and just buy the original.Better yet, buy it on Blu-ray!

Grade: B

The Matrix Reloaded

Cool effects, story kinda lacking.

Why was the original "Matrix" that came out in 1999 such a great movie? Was it because of the super cool special effects and action sequences? Well, kinda, but what made it such an interesting film was how well the concept played out.The film itself has one of the most original ideas that anyone could come up with if they were trying to make a film like "The Matrix".Is "The Matrix Reloaded" as good as the groundbreaking original? Nowhere near. While the film is undoubtly entertaining and fun, it lacks the sharpness of the first. The story this time around is not as compelling and it lacks that 'science-fiction' feeling that the first had.Remember those cool-looking octopus-like machines? Well, they aren't introduced untill about 90 minutes into the film.I really liked them too.One of the major problems with "Reloaded" is that it feels like an action movie from Hong Kong. The action sequences are thrilling and well-made, but whatever happened to the ideas of shootouts in a "Matrix" movie? The movie itself feels like a bunch of combat scenes strung together to make one long movie, where the story seems to be drowned out by all the fighting. To make matters even worse, the characters aren't used as much as they should be.Keanu Reeves still managed to light up the screen with his performance, but what happened to Morpheus? He was one of the coolest characters in the original film and now it feels as if though he's reduced to a character who should only be involved in the action sequences.Despite it's flaws, "The Matrix Reloaded" makes for a slam-bang entertaining 2 hours of non-stop action, but don't expect much else.

Grade: B

The Matrix

You've never seen anything like it.

How many movies are there like "The Matrix"? Probably none. Note: That's a good thing. The fact that "The Matrix" is it's own movie proves just how original Hollywood can be most of the time.Sometimes they borrow heavily from other movies of a certain genre, but I couldn't recall anything similar to "Indiana Jones" or "Star Wars" here.the very best thing about this film would have to be the grand style of it.Without a doubt, this is one of the best looking movies I've ever seen, and I haven't seen it on Blu-ray yet! Now that's something I'll have to do! The visual effects, even if this movie was released in 1999, are absolutly amazing. These effects would probably make James Cameron, the creator of "Avatar", jealous.Well, "Avatar" had some awesome effects, but it seemed to never end and just go on and on and on.In "The Matrix", the special effects SEEM to be mixed 50/50 with live-action instead of 70/30 like "Avatar". Don't get me wrong, I love "Avatar", but "The Matrix" is a much more mind-bending and provacative thriller with deeper characters and a more original story, and it's hard to find a movie with both of those things nowadays.

Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) is a computer hacker who is soon taken into a world unlike any other. This world, obviously, is called The Matrix.*Gasp!* That's the name of the movie! he is taken in the hands of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), who teaches him everything about The Matrix and why Thomas has been chosen to leave his empty life as a computer hacker to become "The One". The One is the only being that can save the planet from certain danger, which includes machines and Hugo Weaving.

If your sitting there and saying "I've heard of a plot like that.", I would seriously jump through the computer screen and slap you for saying such a thing. This is a GREAT and ORIGINAL plot that very few people can come up with, not even Christopher Nolan! That's right, I said it. In all honesty, I find "The Matrix" to be more original than "Inception". Hey, that's just me, take it up with someone else. Now let's talk about the film.Keanu Reeves is darn good here as the central character. He doesn't freak out like a pansy or stand with a straight face when he enters The Matrix, he reacts with over or under-reacting.Of course, the thing that outshines the story or characters is the special effects, which are, I'll say it again, extraordinarly great! If you have yet to seen this movie, do so. It could have an impact on you.

Grade: A-
