Cannibal Holocaust
December 15, 2010
The sickest and most disturbing movie I've ever seen.
Banned in over 50 countries and known for it's disturbingly graphic scenes of violence and animal cruelty, "Cannibal Holocaust" is a real life-changer.If I never saw the movie, the disturbing images and scenes would've never made their way into my head.Could this be the most disturbing movie ever made? I've seen the grotesque "the Human Centipede" and the head turner "Buried in the Sand: The Deception of America", but even those movies can't outmatch "Cannibal Holocaust".I'll admit that "Buried in the Sand" was shocking and tough to watch with it's actual terrorist executions on camera, but they just can't quite top what I've seen in the sick piece of exploitation I'm reviewing right now. What's so sick about it? "Cannibal Holocaust" has the most disturbing and powerful rape scenes I've ever seen in a movie. The scene where a native takes a woman, shoves a stone in and out of her body, and forcing a mud ball with spikes in her vagina was a real shocker.I can usually handle this type of stuff, but this was something else, something otherworldly.I don't think I'll ever look at the abortion scene ever without looking away.In this graphic scene, natives tie a pregnant native girl's arms and remove the baby from the womb with a sharp rock. They cut out the baby, bury it in mud, and beat the woman with stones until she dies.Powerful and graphic stuff. It's not just the violence against humans that made this one hell of a shocking movie and it definetly isn't JUST the hard-to-watch rape scenes. It's the scenes that involve ACTUAL animal killings.A muskrat is sliced open while it's still breathing and squealing, a turtle is decapitated and disembowled, showing it's organs in graphic detail, a monkey has it's face cut off and it's brains eaten, and a baby pig is shot in the head. The pig one didn't really affect me, but the rest were absolutly gross and shocking, given the fact that I like animals. If there's a plus side to the gory and gross carnage, the movie is well-made and well-shot.Without this movie, we probably wouldn't have "The Blair Witch Project" or even "Cloverfield".The movie also features one of the most beautiful and haunting themes ever to be composed. There you have it.Looking past the movie's disturbing scenes, I enjoyed the movie.I did NOT enjoy the sexual and gory violence that happened, but the movie, as a whole, is effective and entertaining.I recommend it only for those with strong stomachs and can handle brutalitly that they will probably NEVER see in another film. You've been warned.
