Scream 4

After 11 years, "Scream" finally returns with a bang!
"Scream 4" is the true return of director Wes Craven. After his terribly reviewed "My Soul To Take", Craven returns to his roots and plants himself back in the genre he created back in 1996.The original "Scream", which I consider a slasher classic, redefined the slasher genre by becoming aware of the genre it was lampooning. The sequels didn't do as good with the critics and audience as they progressed in the later years. It seems like forever since I've seen part 2 and I all I know about the 3rd is that it's undoubtly the worst of the bunch. Can I guarantee you that this is Wes Craven has he used to be? It's not as original as the original film or even "A Nightmare On Elm Street", but in a world of un-needed reboots and sequels, "Scream 4" is nowhere near that world.Lucky for the franchise and it's fans, "Scream 4" is a lot more clever than you probably would've thought it would be.Let's not forget the side stuff, this is, without a doubt, the funniest Wes Craven film I've seen.If you don't find at least the opening credits giggle-worthy, I bet you thought "Disaster Movie" was hilarious.
Sidney Prescott, the main victim of the first 3 films, returns to the town of Woodsboro for her book-signing tour.Dewey Riley, a deputy in the originals, is now the town sherrif and Gail Weathers is officially married to Dewey and tries to earn her fame back by investigating the murders that take place at the start of the film. Now that Sidney is back where it all started, it seems that someone isn't too happy about it.The Ghostface killer is back, and he isn't afraid to leave Woodsboro a trail of bloody murders behind it's trail.
Some of the murders are plain, while I somehow managed to get a kick out of a lot of the others. There's one in particular where a cop gets stabbed in his forehead with blood pouring non-stop down his face.He exits the cop car, throws a random punch into the air (lol) and the last words before he dies is "F*ck Bruce Willis". Now THAT was funny! So the writing/dialogue by Kevin Williamson is pretty good and smart at times, and the acting by Neve Cambell, David Arquette, and Courtney Cox Arquette is as fresh as always. The killings are sometimes hilarious and bloody, and what can I say about the ending? Awesome, just awesome. If you manage to take the story seriously but not some of the deaths or the acting before the deaths, you'll probably walk out of "Scream 4" thinking that you had a great time.Do the exact opposite and you'll end up missing "My Soul to Take".
Grade: B+
