Live for nothing.Or die for something.
Sylvester Stallone is one of the world's most underrated actors/directors.Some of his movies did pretty good with the fans of his movies. While not going too well with the critics, movies like this and "The Expendables" manage to reach for their target audience: Action-craving teenagers, including myself.I honestly think "The Expendables" is one of Stallone's best films.Hey, that's just me."Rambo" may not QUITE be up there with "Expendables", but it's still a great time.Let this be a warning: This is a movie strictly for Rambo and Stallone fans.Everyone else may find themselves being sick to their stomachs. This is, without a doubt, Stallone's most violent film I've ever seen.People are blown up with landmines and obliterated to pieces with a .50 caliber machine gun.All of it is pretty graphic. The movie also shows 3 children being killed on screen.1 is shot in the chest, 1 is stabbed, and the last is thrown into a burning building. The movie originally received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA for "Extreme Violence".It managed to get an R rating when Stallone convinced the board to go easy on the film.So people who aren't interested in these types of movies should go look somewhere else, because this is definitely not your type.Besides the relentless gore, the action sequences are pretty well made here, and the movie is pretty accurate as a war movie. The actors who play the Burmese soldiers all do an excellent job as the "enemy" of the "state", and the "state" just so happens to be Rambo himself.Stallone's character doesn't exactly have as much dialogue as you might expect. But it's not the dialogue of the character that makes the performances of the actor memorable. It's mainly the carnage that Stallone inflicts on the enemy. He shoots the enemy in the head with a bow and arrow. He uses a .50 caliber machine gun and literally obliterates a countless number of soldiers.I'm talking about people being shot to pieces with legs falling off and blood splattering like there's no tomorrow. That scene goes on for a violent 4-5 minutes yet I wanted it to go on and on and never stop.I enjoyed the carnage so much that I wanted it to keep going and expand the 80 minute running time to at least 90 minutes. It's a short movie, but Stallone makes every second count by delivering a memorable performance as the "hero" and giving violent yet extravagant action scenes.Hoorah!
Grade: B+
