Paranormal Activity 2
October 30, 2010
One of the scariest sequels/prequels you'll ever see.
"Paranormal Activity" ran on a shoestring budget of only $15,000, yet it became it a horror hit and many people called it one of the scariest movies of all time.In my "Saw 6" review, I said that me and my friend was going to see "Saw 6" until we saw that "Paranormal Activity" was playing. We saw it, we were scared, and we liked it.To tell you the truth, I wasn't scarred or terrified beyond belief by it.Then I wondered if the sequel was going to be scary or if it was going to be any good at all.I take every bad thing I may have said in the past back."Paranormal Activity 2" is not only, in my opinion, better than the first, but also scarier. This is what the original should've been.I jumped, I screamed, I cringed in terror, and I even cried at one point. That's how scary it was.It may be one of the scariest theater experiences I've ever had, and I thought "Quarantine" and "The Last Exorcism" was creepy.People who hated the first will probably hate this one as well. It's naysayers like those people that make me wonder if people even know what horror movies are anymore. This is a prime example of what scary movies should be.It's scary and suspensful, you care about the smallest and insignificant characters that includes the baby and dog, and it's entertaining.
Time for the plot: The movie is essentialy a prequel, set 60 days before the events of the original "Paranormal Activity".A family walks into their home with utter disbelief at the mess that they assume burglars have caused. To be sure, they set up cameras in every room of the house to get enough proof. What happens on the cameras is enough for anyone to beieve that there is a demon inside of this house. Why is there a demon terrorizing this specific family? They're demons, that's what they do.Things get worse when the teenage daughter of the family uses an Ouija board to communicate with the demon(s).This only makes matters worse for the family. If you've seen the original film, you should know that trying to communicate with demons will only piss 'em off.She then finds out that after doing so, the demon will require a soul. Not just any soul, but the soul of an infant. This is a bad thing, because her younger brother is an infant.
It's plots like these that make movies like "Paranormal Activity 2" fun to watch. The story keeps you interested and what happens on the screen either scares you or entertains you.In this case, it scared me.Scratch that, it absolutly terrified me.I know it sounds stupid that a sequel like this could actually scar someone with how scary it was, but that's just me.The scare factor and the addition of characters was what made this movie an even better and terrifying movie than the original.Congrats to the people involved for making a terrifying movie that literally had me shaking when the end credits hit.
Grade: B+
