Monster

One of the best female performances ever.
"Monster" is many things: Muder, prostitution, lesbianism, romance, financial problems, and mental break downs. It's these kind of issues mixed with Charlize Theron that makes this an outstandingly well-made film.Theron gives , not only the performance of her career, but also one of the best female performances I've seen in any movie.Christina Ricca also deserves some praise for her daring role as Theron's character's love partner. This is also one of the best movies I've seen that had anything to do with lesbians. The female lovers in "Monster" have so much chemisty together that it's impossible not to care for them.Never have I've been more hooked into a female character other than the one Theron plays, a prostitute who goes on a killing rampage, leading to her being executed in 2002.That was not a spoiler, the film is based directly off the true story of Aileen Wuornos, a prostitue who got suckered into murder.I don't believe that she was a pyscho, the movie portrays her killing men for money. With a love partner now in the picture, she had to find a way to get money, so she lured in unexpecting victims of her future crime so she could stabilize her financial issues.
I'll say it once more, Charlize Theron is great in this movie. If she never won the oscar for Best Actress for her role in this movie, I would go starstruck mad! The film is brilliantly acted AND directed by Patty Jenkins, who was a 1st time director at the time of filming."Monster" goes to show how great women can be when it comes to movies.Only women and relate to other women's problems, that's what makes this a great movie. The performances, the directing, the story, all of this makes "Monster" a powerful, but triumphant tale of murder and romance.
Grade: A-
