The Social Network
February 22, 2011Facebook user or not, "The Social Network" will grab your attention.
Facebook is literally one of my favorite sites out there for the moment. Why wouldn't it be? It's a fun and addictive place that lets users express oneself in addition to chatting with friends and playing games that range from Mafia Wars (my favorite) and Cafe World.David Fincher's "The Social Network" respects not only Facebook and it's users, but also the founder and co-founder.Fincher isn't up there on my list of favorite directors such as Spielberg or Christopher Nolan, but he has made what may be his best film yet.I've only seen 2 other movies from him, "Alien 3" and "Fight Club". The threequel to "Alien" was decent, but lacking, and don't get me started on my dislike for "Fight Club".Here, Fincher does what I've never seen him do before. He takes the characters and story so serious to a point that it knows more than how to do things right.Nothings cliched and nothing seems repetitive. No, the movie itself feels like a breath of fresh air.
Mark Zuckerberg ,as some of us may know, founded Facebook, or as he called it, Thefacebook. With his knowledge and his best friend being the co-founder, it isn't long before Facebook, I'm sorry, Thefacebook becomes a huge success, but not every story is happy throughout.Tyler and Howard Winklevoss, two twin brothers, who originally came up with the idea for what Facebook came to be, view Zuckerberg's site and claim to everyone that Mark stole their idea. That's only one lawsuit, Mark is also being sued by his best friend and co-founder for $600 million.I don't want to give too much away, so you'll have to find out why Mark's very best friend turned against him.
If you want a good movie that features the best performances by Jessie Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake, then you won't regret sitting through 2 hours of a story that will both entertain and rivet you. This is an extremely well-acted and beautifully shot film that, although isn't quite perfect, will remain as a classic story of friendship and betrayal.Oscars, here we come!
