Who watches the Watchmen?

Based off of a graphic novel, "Watchmen" has all the things that any fan could ask for.It has great actors and performances, Jackie Earl Hayley's performances as Rorschach being the most memorable. It has a story that is rich and complex enough to leave fans of the novel and non-fans such as myself sitting in their seats while being intrigued by what's happening on the screen. It's violent enough to satisfy anyone who wanted a darker and more violent movie than "The Dark Knight".Violence doesn't really matter in a movie like this, but it helps make certain things more realistic and surreal.I was not a fan of the novel when I first heard of the movie, but I wanted to see it anyway.Like I said before, the movie is complex, so I was sort of confused about the plot. Then the movie was released on DVD and my friend let me borrow the director's cut, which is about 25 minutes longer, making a 2-and a half hour movie 3 hours. Now that I payed more attention to it, I liked the movie even more.Everything from the characters to the situations they got in all just fascinated me.The movie is a little too long, but every scene fits in perfectly especially the 5-minute beginning credits that's almost entirely slow motion. What's striking about the movie isn't the movie itself. It's how underrated it is.I haven't read the novel so I can't say if the movie pays it enough respect to be called a faithful adaption.Either people were expecting too much or they didn't take the movie as seriously as intended. Most superhero movie that have a serious tone manage to have a sort of playfulness and wittiness with some of the action scenes.A perfect example of this would be "Spider-man". People, this is NOT a witty or fun movie. It's all one tone, serious. It doesn't try to have fun with the action or try to make us feel horny with the slow motion sex scene that's probably one of the most emotional love scenes in a superhero movie. You can't go into this looking for a fun movie. You need to see it as a film that takes it's seriousness to a right tone.

Director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead, 300) has made his most thought provoking movie to date.He combines politics with superheros and I don't think that there's ever been a finer combo. The actors are all excellent here. The best performance here is Jackie Earl Hayley as Rorschach, a deranged "hero" who's downright serious when it comes to doing what he does best. He's violent and has a voice that's similar to someone with a cold, but that's what makes the performance work. He's dark and sinister, yet we care for the character. It's just a shame to see these great actors in a movie that only received ok reviews instead of the kind of reviews it should have gotten. It's a movie that deserves to be watched ad should be remembered for everything about it that's memorable.Congrats to Zack Snyder for making an engaging and entertaining superhero movie that's both violent and thought provoking. In short, watch "Watchmen".
