A tale of bravery, courage, homosexuality, and equality.

Just yesterday, I made the choice of renting "Milk" from my public library to see if it was as good as critics claimed it to be.You know what? I made the right choice. This is ,without a doubt, one of the most influential and inspiring movies about politics I've ever seen.Only director Gus Van Sant ("Psycho" remake) and actor Sean Penn ("Carlito's Way") could make such an entertaining movie about the first gay man who became the 1st gay elected official in California AND the first gay activist who fought for gay rights. The true story behind this film seems much more amazing to me now that I've seen "Milk". Harvey Milk has got to be one of the bravest gay people who has ever lived. All of the trouble he goes through to support gay people is just extraordinary and fascinating, and the way the movie portrays is is film-making at it's most mature level. The best thing about this film has GOT to be Sean Penn. This is simply the best performance I've seen an actor give as a homosexual.Sorry Sacha Baren Cohen, your time is up.Credit should also go to James Franco's performance as Harvey Milk's life partner.Franco is a pretty good actor in general, and this is a huge step up for his career that I've seen so far.

I personally believe that gays are created as equal as everyone else.To judge a person because of their personal lifestyles is like judging someone because of their race.If the person can't help it, why go out and just make that person feel bad about it? That's another great thing about "Milk". It raises serious questions about accepting certain people into society, and after seeing this film, I feel more sympathy for the gay community.Hands down to the people behind this film for maing such an important take on several different subjects, whether it's homosexuality or politics or accepting people for who they are.Gay or not, you should watch "Milk" right away! It will leave anything but a sour taste in your mind after viewing it.
