What hurts is how over-rated it is.

What words come to mind when I think of "The Hurt Locker"? War, combat, bombs, explosions, ...over-exaggerated? You know what? I think that last word fits right with this movie. While I did like the movie, there is no way in Hell do I think that this film deserved the Academy Award for Best Picture.Over "Avatar" and "District 9"? Nope, I don't think so.I'm going to start nicely and state that I thought the first 50 minutes were great. When it gets to the tediously long sniper scene that lasts for 10 minutes, it all goes downhill from there. What I liked about the first 50 minutes of the film was it's concept and the story it had going for it.Bomb defusing in Middle-Eastern countries may not sound like much, but the film really played nicely with it's simple story and good actors. After that sniper scene, we're introduced to a whole 'nother movie. It's as if the plot just changes complete direction, one that I wished the director didn't take. The film loses it's streak and it feels like as if we're supposed to care about this other hour.Really, what was this? The bomb defusing plot wasn't much of a story, but what the hell happened after that? I didn't even understand the movie's story after that.I guess there wasn't any to begin with.

Am I supposed to love a movie because it portrays a significant subject, such as the war going on in the Middle East? Does that being the subject of the movie mean I have to love it? Even a mentally challenged monkey would reply 'No'. I swear, if the only reason why this movie won the Academy Award for Best Film AND Best Director was because of it's war theme and the fact that this kind of stuff actually happens, I will lose my faith with mankind. There are really just not a lot of great technical things about this film. The camera work is kinda sloppy, certain scenes try too hard to be unique from other films, and the plot is totally inconsistent.Out of it all, I liked "The Hurt Locker". I'm just infuriated at all the buzz it's getting. It is NOT the best war movie ever made, it is NOT a masterpiece, and it is NOT the best film of 2009.If you want a great war movie, watch "Saving Private Ryan". If you want a masterpiece, watch the other Oscar contenders of 2009.If you want the best film of the year it was released, don't watch "The Hurt locker", watch a smart movie like "District 9" instead.
